Description:
Iron Dextran 10% Plus combines iron dextran and vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin).
Iron is essential for the formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin, and contributes to normal
functioning of metabolism and immune systems.
Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a vital role in the activity of several enzymes in the
body. It is critical in the development of genetic material and the production of red blood cells, and
contributes to normal functioning of metabolism and nervous and immune systems.
Indications:
Treatment and prevention of iron deficiencies in piglets and calves.
Contraindications:
Vitamin E and/or selenium deficiencies.
Dosage and administration:
For subcutaneous (s.c.) or intramuscular (i.m.) administration.
Piglets…………………… 2 ml i.m. in rump musculature
Calves……4 – 8 ml s.c. in a fold of skin over the neck
Side effects:
Intramuscular iron injections can lead to persistent staining of muscle tissue.
Pain, inflammation and abscesses at the injection site and sudden death may occur.
